Sometimes Everything Happens at Once

Support in rural areas can be difficult. Long drives for family and Hospice staff, limited services and intermittent utilities are a fact of life in some places. The only option for some patients is to leave their home and move in with a family member. In a best case scenario this is just a matter of relocation and a new routine. However, sometimes life is very unpredictable and the new location is in jeopardy due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control. A caregiver may lose their job as the employer closes up shop while multiple expenses like a broken vehicle or rent increase all pile on with no means of getting through this immediate crisis other than asking for help. This very situation is one we helped solve recently. We can’t stress how important our donors are for enabling us to help solve these problems for hospice patients and families so they can continue to be caregivers and receive the dignified care they deserve. When a Hospice care team reaches out to us it’s always because they have nowhere else to turn for solutions for their patients and families. In this instance of helping a caregiver who had everything go wrong all at once we were able to extend a helping hand by covering three different expenses. We helped carry the load and gave the caregiver the room they needed to make choices about the immediate needs of their loved one receiving Hospice care.
